The first time I smelled patchouli, I was in high school. Our teacher, Mr. Cironis, always wore this deep, musky, incense-like scent. It was bold, almost mysterious. Most of the kids hated it—I kind of loved it.

Fast forward 20-something years, and the moment I opened a bottle of dark patchouli, I was right back in those high school hallways. Just like that, Mr. Cironis was back in my memory. Funny how a scent can time travel with you.
